Did you know that French is the second most widely learned foreign language after English, with over 200 million global speakers? Our immersive program offers extensive practice in spoken and written French as well as opportunities to study a range of cultural and artistic movements.
Minor Requirements
The French Minor requires 6 courses at and above 1xbet online sports bettinglevel 3 (FREN 300), including one literature course at the 500-level (FREN 520 / 521 / 530 recommended). Retroactive credit and study abroad credits apply toward the French Minor.
Major Requirements
The French Major requires 11 courses (33 credit hours) in French at and above 1xbet online sports bettinglevel 3 (FREN 300), including one required literature courses at the 500-level* (FREN 520 / 521 / 530 recommended), and at least three 6/700-level courses. A grade of “C” or better or a minimum 2.5 GPA is required in all French courses counted towards the major. Classes 1xbet online sports bettingfor the major cannot be taken Pass/Fail. Two non-transfer courses are required at the 700 level.

The French major with distinction requires 13 courses (39 credits) in French at and above level 3 (FREN 300), including one required literature courses at the 500-level (FREN 520 / 521 / 530 recommended)*, and at least four 6/700-level courses, and a 3.5 GPA in all courses taken toward the major.

Ph.D., Duke University
Dr. Kathleen Antonioli teaches all levels of French language, literature and culture classes. Her research areas include modern French literature, especially Colette, feminist approaches to literary study, translation, and teaching French literature. She is also the Director of the International and Area Studies Program.
