Tickets required for Wednesday's 'The U-2 Incident and the Cold War' lecture

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Francis Gary Powers Jr. is presenting "The U-2 Incident and the Cold War" at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the 1xbet online casino Alumni Center. He is the son of the U.S. Air Force pilot who was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960 and held for two years in a Soviet prison.

Powers will speak about the U-2 incident, which he wrote about in his 2003 book "Operation Overflight: A Memoir of the U-2 Incident." Additionally, he served as technical director to the new Steven Spielberg film "Bridge of Spies," which stars Tom Hanks and depicts the U-2 incident.

Powers will sign books at 4 p.m. and a reception will follow at 6 p.m.

Tickets are free, but required. To request tickets, email Brittany Beneke at bmbeneke@1xbet online casino edu. Tickets also are available at Commerce Bank, 727 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, and by emailing Sean Smith with Alliance Realty at sean@goalliancerealty.com.

The book lecture is part of the university's Political, Diplomatic and Military Lecture Series.
