APDesign students compete for scholarships in design charrette
The College of 1xbet online games login , Planning & Design at Kansas State University, or APDesign, challenged seven teams each comprised of three students self-selected from the 1xbet online games login , interior 1xbet online games login & industrial design, landscape 1xbet online games login , regional & community planning programs to a public space/amenity competition for the design of a new urban park housing a multifunction community recreation center and an — actual and virtual — museum.
The competition, including scholarship awards, was sponsored by a local philanthropist with the intent of raising interest in building an improved public resource for the greater Manhattan community. Awards were given out in the form of scholarships for the top three teams to be split among the students.
The first-prize award, for ,000, went to the project "South Wind Plaza." Team members include Kate Larkin, fifth-year student in landscape 1xbet online games login , Baileyville; Grant Urban, fifth-year student in 1xbet online games login Manhattan; and Kanoa San Miguel, fifth-year student in interior 1xbet online games login and industrial design, Longmont, Colorado.
Second-place awards went to the project "Sensory Exploration." Team members includeAurora Wilson, third-year student in 1xbet online games login , Olathe; Monserrat Rios-Lucia, third-year student in interior 1xbet online games login and industrial design, Wichita; andMeredith Bryan, third-year student in landscape 1xbet online games login , Cary, Illinois. The second-place award was for ,900 in scholarships to be split among the students.
Third-place awards went to the project "Community Hub." Team members includeMadison Wulfkuhle, third-year student in landscape 1xbet online games login , Berryton; Ethan Doherty, third-year student in interior 1xbet online games login and industrial design,Girard;and Rebecca Pedrosa, third-year student in 1xbet online games login Puerto Rico. Students will split the third-place scholarship award of ,900.
Additionally, recognizing the quality of ideas and that the competition took place out of the normal academic calendar, the jurors awarded each participant of the other four teams a 0 scholarship.
Jurors for the event included Terry Berkbuegler, landscape architect, Confluence; Vern Henricks, Manhattan Community Foundation; Wyatt Thompson, assistant director of Manhattan Parks and Recreation, city of Manhattan; Julie Hostetler, community member; Ron Fehr, city manager, city of Manhattan; Karen Hibbard, director of the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau; Jason Smith, president/CEO of Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce; and Phil Howe, founder of Kansas State Bank.
