Andrew Curtis to present Anatomy and Physiology Seminar
Andrew Curtis, doctoral graduate research assistant in the laboratory of Hans Coetzee,professor and department head of theanatomy and physiology department, will present "A subcutaneous ear implant to deliver an anaplasmosis vaccine to dairy steers" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Mara Conference Center, 407 Trotter Hall.
Anaplasmosis is an economically important disease affecting cattle worldwide. The Coetzee research group conducted a pilot study to determine the feasibility of delivering an anaplasmosis vaccine to dairy steers via a subcutaneous implant. The goals were to see if animals would tolerate the implant for a long period of time — 20 plus months — and require fewer antibiotic interventions after disease challenge.
