"Discovered 50 years ago in the bioluminescent jellyfish Aequorea victoria, GFP glows green with blue light. Today, GFP and 'flavorful' color variants like 'tomato' and 'cherry' let scientists watch live cells inside tissues and track cancer cells in mouse models," McDonald said.
