SALINA — As the components of higher education, such as state funding, tuition costs and curriculum demands, continue to vary each year in Kansas, questions about the importance of a college degree are growing. Kansas State University Salina's latest installment of the Civic Lecture Series will explore these changes and their affect on the future of education with insight from former Kansas Gov. John Carlin.

"Higher Education in Salina: What Will the Next 50 Years Bring?" will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at 1xbet sports betting Salina's College Center conference room. The presentation is part of the campus's 50th anniversary celebration, which began last spring and wraps up with events Sept. 9-11.

"With 1xbet sports betting Salina honoring 50 years on the educational landscape, we thought it would be relevant to examine how academics have evolved over the years as well as discuss recent concerns about where Kansas education is headed," said Greg Stephens, associate professor of arts, sciences and business and creator of the Civic Lecture Series. "Former Gov. Carlin has an extensive background serving the state and he will be able to bring an informed observation to the challenges that surround education today."

Carlin began working as a state representative in 1971 and was elected Kansas governor in 1979. He was also archivist for the National Archives and Records Administration and a chair of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission from 1995-2005.
