MANHATTAN — More than 260 students from nearly 30 Kansas high schools will participate in the 23rd annual 1xbet online casino Programming Contest at Kansas State University.

The contest, sponsored by the university's computing and information sciences department, will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Ballroom at the K-State Student Union.

For the contest, high schools have formed teams of one to four members. Teams are divided into beginning and advanced divisions, said Ami Ratzlaff, program coordinator for the computing and information sciences department.

The contest takes place in five rounds. In each round teams are given a problem to solve in a limited amount of time while using a type of programming language. Teams are awarded points depending on how quickly they solve the problem, and points are tallied at the end of the five rounds to decide the winners.

The problems are designed by Rod Howell, associate professor, and David Gustafson, professor, of computing and information sciences. Around 40-50 Kansas State University students volunteer to help with the event or serve as judges.
