Guest lecture, faculty and student presentations highlight English department events for November
MANHATTAN -- The Kansas State University department of English will offer several events in November, including a guest lecture and presentations from students and faculty.
All events are free and open to the public. They include:
* Guest lecture by Cecelia Tichi, professor of English at Vanderbilt University, 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the 1xbet online games login Student Union Little Theater. Tichi will present "A Necessary Revolution: Jack London's Fight for America's Future." Tichi's latest book, "Civic Passions: Seven Who Launched Progressive America (and What They Teach Us)," examines innovative leadership through the perspective of seven social activists during periods of crisis in American history. She has earned praise from the New York Times, Publisher's Weekly and other publications for the connections she draws between the Gilded Age of the 19th century and contemporary culture.
* Poetry on Poyntz, 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the Strecker-Nelson Gallery, downtown Manhattan. Join various English department faculty and students as they gather to read some of their literary work.
* SAGE Department Colloquium, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in Room 213 in the Union. The event will feature presentations from three graduate students in English on their various research efforts.
