READY TO SERVE: ROTC UNITS HAVE COMMISSIONING CEREMONIES

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Army and Air Force ROTC units will commission 30 cadets as second lieutenants at ceremonies Friday, May 13, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. The Army ROTC ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. and the Air Force ROTC ceremony will be at 2 p.m.

Earning commissions will be 19 cadets from K-State's Wildcat Battalion Army ROTC unit, and 11 cadets from K-State's Air Force ROTC Detachment 270.

Five cadets from Army ROTC's Wildcat Battalion are being commissioned as distinguished military graduates. This honor ranks them among the top 20 percent of cadets nationwide. The raning is based on grade point average, Army physical fitness scores and leadership abilities.

Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell will serve as the commissioning speaker at the Army ROTC ceremony. Campbell was part of K-State's Army ROTC distinguished alumni class of 1978. He is the commanding general at Fort Hood in Texas.

Col. Douglas K. Lamberth will be the commissioning speaker for the Air Force ROTC ceremony. Lamberth is the vice commander of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita. He earned his commission through Air Force ROTC at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1990.
