TWIST CAREER DAY FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS JAN. 8 AT K-STATE AT SALINA

MANHATTAN -- The 16th annual TWIST Career Day will be Thursday, Jan. 8, at Kansas State University at Salina. The event will start around 9 a.m. in the College Center Conference Room.

TWIST stands for Teen Women in Science and Technology. The career day is an opportunity to encourage teen girls to consider careers in traditionally male-dominated fields such as medicine, engineering, chemistry, aviation, wildlife biology and technology. Students from Bennington, Ell-Saline, Ellsworth, Herington, Junction City, Lincoln, Marysville, Sacred Heart, Salina Central, Salina South, Southeast of Saline, Tescott and Valley Heights high schools are expected to participate.

Professionals from the Salina community will share their career experiences with the teens, giving them an opportunity to learn more about scientific and technical fields.

Keynote speaker will be Deb Miller, Kansas secretary of 1xbet sports betting . She will speak from noon to 1 p.m. in the College Center Conference Room. Miller is the first woman to lead the state Department of 1xbet sports betting and its more than 3,200 employees. She has more than 20 years of experience in the field of 1xbet sports betting and extensive experience in working with political leaders.

Since becoming state 1xbet sports betting secretary, Miller has helped shape national 1xbet sports betting policy as a member of several national 1xbet sports betting boards and committees. In 2008 she became chair of the national 1xbet sports betting Research Board's Executive Committee after serving as vice chair the previous year. Her role as secretary is her second stint with the Department of 1xbet sports betting . She served as director of the department's Division of Planning and Development from 1986-1997.

Miller is a 1976 magna cum laude graduate of K-State with bachelor's in sociology.
