K-STATE DANCE PROGRAM TO PRESENT ANNUAL SPRINGDANCE PERFORMANCES APRIL 3-4

MANHATTAN -- The dance program at Kansas State University will present SpringDance 2009 at 7:30 p.m. April 3-4 in McCain Auditorium.

The performance will feature K-State students and a special presentation from "Walking with Pearl…Southern Diaries," which was restaged by Chanon Judson, a guest artist from the Urban Bush Women dance company who served a dance residency at K-State Feb. 15-28. Choreography by K-State dance faculty Neil Dunn, David Ollington, Julie Pentz and Joyce Yagerline also will be showcased.

In addition, SpringDance 2009 will include a traditional African social dance inspired by guest artists Bernard Woma and Yaa Bekyore, both of Ghana, West Africa.

Tickets for SpringDance 2009 on sale and can be purchased at the McCain box office or by calling 785-532-6428.

In addition to SpringDance, the K-State dance program also will present a Dance Student Spotlight show. This informal event will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in Forum Hall in the K-State Student Union. The show will feature choreography by K-State students and includes experimental works, works in progress and class projects. Featured this semester are projects from the choreography classes and new media projects from the dance and technology classes. Admission to the show is free, but donations will be accepted to support the Dance Accompanying program, which provides live musical accompaniment in dance classes.
