A sternly protective yet unloving father, he forbids the marriage. Catherine suggests elopement; Morris refuses as he finds little endearing about her without her money. Catherine is later approached by Morris again for her hand in marriage. She leads him to believe she will marry, but will not be fooled a second time.

"The Heiress" won the Tony Award in 1995 for best revival of a play. The show was recently revived for a third time on Broadway and closed a successful run on Feb. 19.
