MANHATTAN — The Kansas State University Technology Development Institute has officially launched its new state-of-the-art Additive Manufacturing Prototyping Studio and related services. The studio was made possible as part of a .1 million U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant awarded in 2020.

The prototyping studio features a mix of scanning and 3D-printing capabilities that offer a wide range of flexibility related to the printing process, part size, material type and level of resolution. This new equipment enables the institute to use the latest digital scanning/prototyping technologies to both document complex components through reverse engineering and 3D print high-quality prototypes that can be used for both aesthetic and functional prototype parts.

"We are excited to bring these capabilities into our organization to better serve innovators of all types in a post-COVID-19 economy," said Jeff Tucker, executive director of the Technology Development Institute. "The acceleration of our state's manufacturers' and entrepreneurs' innovation efforts, made possible by this new equipment, will be significant."
